AGS Invests in Keyence 3D Scanner

AGS Technology has invested in a Keyence VL Series 3D Scanner. We added the 3D scanner in March 2024 and it has transformed the way AGS does 3D measurement. To scan an object, users simply need to place a part on the stage and click a button. The system will scan and combine the data from each side into a single 3D model, eliminating any variation that could occur by moving or adjusting the measurement head. Highly reliable measurement over a wide range is now possible for the first time with repeatability within 2 microns.

The 3D scanner coupled with Geomagic Control X measurement software provides AGS Engineering and Quality departments a powerful tool to quickly analyze first shots, reverse engineer parts, first article inspection, and in process production inspections. Jordan Ginsbach, AGS Project Engineer, said “adding this piece of technology to our lab will help streamline many of our processes in engineering, program management, molding, and quality control. It’s the perfect addition to our lab at this time and should help us continue to provide value in engineering and producing high-quality parts. We are excited to showcase this for our customers and welcome them to come see it in action.”

Below is a summary of its core capabilities:
• CAD Comparison: Clearly see deviations between the 3D scan and CAD file
• Part-to-Part Comparison: Accurately analyze the impact of different processing conditions
• Thickness Measurement: Visualize changes in thickness using non-contact measurement
• Cross Section Measurements: Analyze samples in detail without cutting them
• 3D Color Imaging: Quickly visualize differences between surfaces
• 3D Measurements: Flexible 3D measurements using captured data
• Coordinate Measurements: Measurements can be taken using customizable coordinate systems
• GD&T Measurements: Easily implement a variety of geometrical evaluations
• Shape Identification with Markerless Alignment and Stitching: Proprietary algorithm combines 3D surfaces without the use of markers for large parts that do not fit within the scanning stage
• Split Display Function: Simultaneous 3D displays from multiple anglesbec
• Supports 3D-CAD STL Output: Scanned part files can be saved as STL files
• Supports 2D-CAD DXF Output: Complex drawings can be generated without manual input
• Report Output Function: Quickly output measurement results as reports
