More injection molding machines means more injection molds. Optimizing production time requires a robust maintenance department that has the right experience and the right tools to help maintain and repair new and existing molds quickly. The Maintenance Team at AGS identified the need to add a milling machine to help lower cost and lead times on small tooling related projects. Top management listened and to kick off the New Year a Bridgeport milling machine with two axis digital readout was acquired and installed in the tooling room. In a very short time it has become a valuable resource when it comes to fabricating and tuning mold components, gages, and fixtures. The return on investment will not only be short, but more importantly it is a new in-house capability that allows AGS to continue shipping on-time and on specification to its customers.
UPDATE 10/28/18: Based on the significant cost and lead time reductions achieved with the Bridgeport milling machine, AGS has since added a Boyer Schultz 6×12 surface grinder, a Troyke cross slide rotary table, a Gorton 375-2 tool & cutter grinder, a Deckel single lip tool grinder, a Powermatic variable speed drill press, and a Torit dust collector to help keep our busy tooling room clean.
